World of ?
Hjaltland
The Island Kingdom of Hjaltland is one of the smallest independant island nations. The island itself is barely a hundred miles across at the greatest dimension and it only boasts a single city and several small villages. Only a single port exists on the island in the Castle-Town of Hjalt and all access to the port is overseen by the Hjaltland Sea-Fort which overlooks the protected bay and the only safe approaches from the east.
Map
1: Village of Morwin
The Village of Morwin sits high up in the mountains overlooking Lake Hjalt. Seated atop an ancient volcano, Morwin has famous hot springs known for their regenerative effects. The small community often accommodates travelers from the Castle-Town as well as foreign visitors from time to time. Cooled in the summer by its high altitude and warmed in the winter by the springs and thermal vents, Morwin has nearly perfect weather year-round.
2: Castle-Town of Hjalt
The Castle-Town of Hjalt has grown up around the ancient castle of the kindgom. The castle itself is built atop a natural rocky outcropping and the town surrounds it on all sides. A sturdy wall protects the people of the town and the river running from the northern mountain lake passes through the town and into the sea. The town is surrounded by rich farm and ranchlands, such that most of the food of the kingdom is produced in this region.
3: Mining-Village of Sakur
On the western part of the main island lies the mining village of Sakur. Once the site of a rich iron mine, the main veins have petered out over the last few generations and the village is a shadow of its former glory. Many homes lie abandoned and only a handful of folk sitll work the mines. Farming and ranching is difficult in Sakur as this part of the island is very dry and receives little rainfall.
4: Ancient Bridge
Connecting the two islands of Hjaltland is a structure locally known as the Ancient Bridge. Built by some ancient civilization this massive stone bridge and fortification spans the rocky waters below and serves as the only safe access to the smaller island. Great stony feet stretch from the arc of the bridge to several small rocky islands below which provide the footing for the great span. The fortified gates at either end of the bridge have been repaired as has the central tower-fort in the middle of the bridge.
5: Hjaltland Sea-Fort
Situated upon the southern island of the kingdom, the Sea-Fort overlooks the only passable waters from the ocean into the Bay of Hjalt. The Sea-Fort was built hundreds of years ago when the kingdom as a whole was much more prosperous. While still manned and maintained the Sea-Fort has seen better days and is in need of repairs. Save for a rocky ridge that runs from the foot of the Ancient Bridge to the Sea-Hold the rest of the island is nearly sea-level in elevation.
Adalon
The continent of Adalon is comprised of three large landmasses. In the west is the Kingdom of Veldine. In the east is the Sultanate of Sahra. Between these two lands is the blasted isle of Lucifron.
Map
1: Port-City of Veldine
Along the northern shore of Veldine is the Port-City of the same name. The Port-City of Veldine has stood for well over a thousand years and is one of the major ports of call in the world. The Port-City of Veldine was once also the capital of the Kingdom of Veldine and while the seat of government has since moved to the Palace of the Crystal Throne the ancient Castle Veldine still stands and serves to protect the city and its inhabitants.
2: Palace of the Crystal Throne
Built high atop a lone mountain is the Palace of the Crystal Throne where the immortal Queen of Veldine rules her kingdom. Queen Veldine long ago laid claim to all these lands and has spent over a thousand years ruling over her subjects. The Palace of the Crystal Throne is a magnificent structure, a restored ruin of ancient design and grandure. More than just a seat of government the Palace of the Crystal Throne is a town in of itself as well as a fabled center of learning and wisdom with a library renowned throughout the world.
3: Ruined City of Navice
Along the south-western shore of Veldine lies the ruined city of Navice. Nearly a hundred years ago the city was attacked by a marauding dragon and sieged by a horde of monsters. While the enemy were cleansed from the lands about, the city itself still lies in ruins and is uninhabited.
4: Garden City of Vesper
Deep within the woods of the south-eastern parts of Veldine is the City of Vesper. Known as the Garden City for all the beautiful plants and gardens, as well as rich farmlands, the city of Vesper and the surrounding forest are one of the most peaceful parts of the kingdom.
5: Mt. Lucifron
In the center of the Isle of Lucifron is the great mountain and volcano of the same name. It is said that long ago the continent of Adalon was whole from west to eastern shore, but the lands were shattered by an eruption of Lucifron. The lands about the mountain are dangerous to traverse, as the volcano is still active and spews forth lava and toxic gases. The whole island is frequently wracked by earthquakes and very little can live here for long.
6: City of the Emerald Sands
Located along the shore of the only source of freshwater in the Sultanate of Sahra is one of the largest cities in the world. Known only as the City of the Emerald Sands the city itself is a veritable paradise in an otherwise inhospitable desert. Gems and riches beyond count have been shifted from the sands about the city and the lands around the lake are lush with life. The city itself is crowded with many buildings packed within the ancient walls of the city. Fresh water is pumped from the lake by unknown means and distributed to hundreds of fountains around the city.
7: Port-Town of Rean
Along the western shore of Sahra is the Port-Town of Rean. The only other settlement of the Sultanate of Sahra, this Port-Town sits along the only river that runs from the lake to the sea. Though not a very large port, a great deal of mercantile trafic passes through as many around the world are eager for the valuable goods of this country.
8: Great Pyramid of Sahra
Far from the inhabited parts of the lands of Sahra is the Great Pyramid. Long ago an ancient civilization dwelt within these lands, a people said to be descended from the gods themselves. Little now remains of their legacy save for scattered ruins buried by the shifting sands of the desert.
